On June 4th, YMCA Youth Achievers Banquet was held at The Bond Ballroom, in Hartford CT. We recognized seven graduating seniors and thanked over 100 youth and their parents for their participation in the YMCA achievers 2014-2015 program year. In addition, we honored 12 adult achievers volunteers who gave their time over the past 8 months to youth from the Greater Hartford area. We had the pleasure of having Cato T. Laurencin, M.D., Ph.D., a surgeon and professor at the University of Connecticut, as our keynote speaker for the evening. He shared words of wisdom that touched the minds and hearts of everyone.
The YMCA achievers program serves youth in grades 5 to 12, in which they meet two times a month on Saturdays. The adult achievers serve as positive role models that guide the youth in various program curriculums and designed to demonstrate to young people the critical importance of striving for excellence in all that we do. We wish our graduating seniors great success as they all move on to college. We look forward to our remaining Y-Achievers to return in the fall and for them to invite a friend.
We would like to thank the following sponsors for their support throughout the year:
• Fairview Capital Partners, our lead supporter
• Travelers Foundation
• Hartford Steam Boiler
• Prudential Retirement
• Connecticut Natural Gas a subsidiary of UIL Holdings
• Gary Wolff – Million Dollar Round Table
• ValMark Securities Global Gift Fund
• George A. and Grace L. Long Foundation
• Elizabeth Carse Foundation
• Xerox Foundation
Once again we want to thank all of the adult achievers, parent achievers and volunteers for their time, dedication and commitment to a program that is wholly dependent on active and effective volunteerism as well as support from our supporters. Have a great summer!
