About

Old Guard of Connecticut
Education, activities, networking , contributions to the community are all available for retired men-
As a retired executive or professional, either recently retired or some years ago, you can enjoy the benefits of membership. The Guard is now over 50 years old and men continue to join. There are now over 200 active men, age 60s to their 90s, who enjoy the Old Guard and its activities.
Interesting guest speakers make presentations and answer questions at each weekly meeting. Recent meetings have featured the general manager of Westfarms Mall; the president of the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC); the director of Noah Webster House on the many faces of Noah Webster; Oz Grieble, Executive Director of the Hartford Alliance. The calendar is full of other timely subjects through May, 2018.
Meetings provide a chance to meet new neighbors and renew old acquaintances. Many men join in extended conversation at informal luncheons following the meeting, and at special events including UConn hockey, football, basketball, trips to regional places of interest, golf and bowling.
Many Guard members contribute their time and talents to supporting the community through the Seniors Job Bank, Meals on Wheels, act as volunteer guides at the UConn Health Center, “ring the bell” for the Salvation Army and support the West Hartford YMCA programs for youth. Participating in any of these additional activities is purely optional. Retirement presents members different opportunities for contributing to the community and getting to know each other better.
Meetings are held Tuesday morning in the centrally located Westminster Presbyterian Church hall on Boulevard in West Hartford. The season begins in September and concludes in early May. Guard members now reside in 22 local towns.
New members are welcomed throughout the year.
