Mountain Lions climbing Team Information

We believe that climbing is one of the greatest overall body conditioning activities in which your child can be involved. Mental discipline, in addition to the obvious physical benefits, prepares these young athletes to become confident, capable, young adults with lifetime skills such as time management, dedication, understanding how to overcome fear and defeat, and the ability to handle disappointment. In this age of high-tech instant gratification, teaching children how to accept delayed gratification for the attainment of a worthy ideal is challenging. Being involved in Farmington Valley YMCA’s competitive program will offer the opportunity to learn personal discipline and to gain tremendous self-confidence as they set and achieve their goals.

Kids and teens (ages 5+)  have the opportunity to try climbing in a more challenging atmosphere! Practices are twice a week and competitions are held frequently.

The Mountain Lions competitive climbing team began Fall 2012. Enrollment is open and will be offered until team fills.

Quick facts:
  • There are two age groups that practice bi-weekly.
  • The monthly tuition is on an automatic draft and includes all costs for the team (coaching, competitions, practices, t-shirts…etc.)
  • Try outs for the team are open to the public, it is a basic selection process facilitated by a coach during open climb times in the wall.
We acknowledge, and you must also consider, that participation on a team is not suited for everyone. The decision to join team is a commitment. Team members do not move on and off due to conflicts or other sports. The reason for this is that time away from training will cause setbacks for the climber, coaches, and team.
